Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), founded in 1924 by Dr. Sun Yat-sen,celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024. With five campuses in the three cities of Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen, and ten affiliated hospitals, the University offers a comprehensive range of disciplines, fostering academic excellence and innovation. Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a great national hero, patriot, and pioneer of the Chinese democratic revolution. As one of the major sites for the dissemination of Marxism in China, SYSU carries forward a legacy of revolutionary traditions and pursuit of excellence. Originally named Guangdong University, it was renamed Sun Yat-sen University in 1926 in honor of Dr. Sun’s contributions to the nation.
Today, SYSU has grown into a modern, comprehensive university with a focus on research, openness, and diversity. Following institutional restructuring in 1952 and the reintegration of the Sun Yat-sen Medical University in 2001, SYSU now ranks among the leading international universities in China.
