Gradually establish integrative diagnosis and treatment centers in Hong Kong to enhance the medical service capabilities and international competitiveness of the Greater Bay Area.
- Synthetic Biology: Leverage Hong Kong's strengths in bioinformatics, genetic engineering, and automation technology, combined with the Greater Bay Area's well-established bio-research infrastructure. Aim to become a globally leading innovation center in synthetic biology and drive the upgrading of the biopharmaceutical industry.
- Biomanufacturing: Focus on developing technologies for the biopharmaceutical industry, including new bioreactors, efficient cell culture and purification processes, and intelligent production management systems. Enable efficient, low-cost, and large-scale production of biologics, biomaterials, and diagnostic reagents, addressing global health and well-being.
- Gene and Cell Therapy: Build on Hong Kong's strengths in genomics, cell biology, and clinical medicine, in collaboration with the clinical resources and medical institutions of the Greater Bay Area. Focus on cutting-edge technologies in gene and cell therapy, such as gene editing therapy, immunotherapy, and stem cell therapy.
- Innovative Drug Development: Emphasize the development of small molecule drugs, antibody drugs, and nucleic acid drugs. Utilize advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and big data to accelerate drug discovery and preclinical research. Establish a comprehensive drug development system, including a non-human primate research center, and strengthen collaborations with international pharmaceutical companies and research institutions to enhance the global competitiveness of the Greater Bay Area.
- Successful Outcomes: Achievements include vaccines for fish diseases, novel molecular evolution technologies, EB virus candidate vaccines, naringin-based drug formulations, and small molecules for cataract/glaucoma treatment, with commercialization exceeding billions in value.
